The Light of the World

At this time of year when we see all the Christmas lights, we can’t help but be reminded of the reason for all of the lights.
The lights we admire represent Christ Jesus because He came into a world of darkness to bring His glorious light—a light that would dispel the darkness of sin, despair, hopelessness, fear, sorrow, and pain.
John 8:12—Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
Jesus came to dispel the spiritual darkness in the world. The world is full of spiritual darkness due to sin because the god of this world system (Satan) rules.
Luke 2:32 says, “A light to the Gentiles” (Jesus is the Light).
God sent forth His Son to dispel this darkness. God is a God of timing and at the right time, according to His perfect plan of redemption, He sent forth His Son to bring light to a dark world.
Galatians 4:4 says, “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son born of a woman, born under the law.”
In John’s Gospel we see the Light. John 1:4-5—“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines on the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
John the Baptist came to bear witness of the Light. He was not the Light, but he pointed people to the Light. He was the forerunner of the Light.
We are to follow this Light—to believe in it and to walk in it. It is the light of spiritual life.
God had not spoken to mankind or the prophets for 400 years. But after 400 years, God spoke to John the Baptist’s father, Zacharias.
Jesus is the true Light. John 1:9 says, “That was the true light which gives light to every man.” Those who do not receive the light are under condemnation.
The Gospel of the Lord Jesus if the light.
John 3:19 says, “Men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil.” People want to continue to live in sin and darkness rather than come to the light.
Jesus enlightens every believer with the light of reason—revelation knowledge. The light of the Gospel is sent to the world to reprove the world of its evil deeds and to show people their transgressions.
John 3:20-21 says, “Everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. He who does the truth (the Word) comes to the light that his deeds may be clearly seen that they have been done in God.”
We are to do the truth or be doers of the Word. We are to walk in the Word of God and observe to do the Word. Jesus came to bring light to the lost.
He opened blind eyes so they could see in the natural and He gave them spiritual light.
Luke 1:79—“To give light to those who sit in darkness…”
In John 9, we see the story of the blind man who was blind from birth. He was spiritually blind and physically blind.
Jesus healed him of his physical blindness and then opened his spiritual eyes.
John 9:35, “Do you believe in the Son of God?” “Who is the Lord that I may believe?”
John 9:37-38—“You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you. Lord, I believe and He worshiped Him.”
There are many today walking in spiritual darkness. They reject coming to the light.
The light of God’s Gospel has been preached around the world, yet there are so many deceived by the darkness. They are deceived by false religion.
The church of the Lord Jesus Christ must be a lighthouse to show the lost way to Jesus, the Savior.
We have been called out of darkness into light (1 Peter 2:9). Colossians 1:12-13—“…inheritance of the saints in the light delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed or translated into His kingdom…”
1 John 1:5-7—“If we walk in light, we have fellowship with one another.” Jesus said, we are now the “light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). “The light shines to enable others to see” (Matthew 5:16). Let your light sine so others can see.
We are to light the way to Jesus for our family and others. A church body is like a lighthouse, light the way to Jesus for all to see and follow.
In a dark world, God is a pure and perfect light. In Him, there is no darkness at all.
Jesus was a light to the Gentiles. Isaiah 49:6 says Jesus brought salvation to the Gentiles (that’s us).
In 1 Thessalonians 5:5 Paul says, we are sons of light—“You are sons of light and sons of day.” We are not of the night nor of darkness.
The Holy Spirit enlightens believers so they are spiritually “awake.”
The Rapture of the Church will not catch the Church by surprise. God will, through His Spirit, reveal it to the Church. We may not know the exact day or hour, but we will know the season. So we are to pray and walk in light.
Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of Your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.”
Each day, spend time in the Word of God and gather knowledge and the light of God’s word. Let your light shine. Let people see the Lord Jesus in you. Reflect His glorious light. Where there is light, there is no darkness.
Ephesians 5:8-11 says to walk as children of the light and have no fellowship with darkness.
Are you in darkness today?
Are you in the darkness of depression and discouragement?
Has Satan blinded you with deception telling you that you are worthless and that you are not going to make it?
