Burning Hearts

Applying God’s Word to Your Life
After the Crucifixion and Resurrection, Jesus appears to two men, one being Cleopas, and walked with them on the road to Emmaus. Jesus began to teach them and expand on the Scriptures. Luke 24: 26-27, “beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself."
Later in the story, he revealed himself to them as they broke bread. Luke 24: 30-31. Jesus was in His Glorified Body and “they knew him.” Then he vanished from their sight. And they said to one another, “Did not our hearts ‘burn’ within us while He talked with us on the road and while He opened to Scriptures to us?” They arose to go back to Jerusalem and found the eleven disciples and those who were gathered together to tell what they had seen.
In Luke 24: 44-45, Jesus appears and “opened their understanding that they might comprehend the Scriptures.” It was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day.” “And that repentance of remission of sins should be preached and His name to all nations beginning at Jerusalem.” “And you are witnesses to these things.” He was teaching His followers the Scripture of understanding and applying the Bible to their lives. Would be the key to applying what they know to ministry in their lives for Boldness.
“I will send the promise of the Father down upon you, that you be endued with power from on high.” This promise is found in Joel 2: 28-29. “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh...”
If you want to apply the Scriptures to your life and see fruit from them you must do these things:
  • You must belong to Christ. He must be your Savior. Without a personal relationship with God through His Son, Jesus, His word will remain closed to you. 1 Corinthians 2: 14 “The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him…” If you don’t know Him as savior, receive Him now.
  • You must be hungry for the Word of God and for the presence of God. Matthew 5:6 “hunger and thirst for righteousness – You will be filled.” Have a hungry heart and one that burns with passion for the things of God. You need to have passion for God’s fellowship.
  • You must be humble. 1 Peter 5: 5-6 “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.” You must humbly obey the Word of God and apply them to your lives. You must apply its truths in obedience. Obedience brings God’s promises to come to pass in your life. Look at Isaac – in Genesis 26:2 “The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, ‘Do not go down to Egypt, live in the land which I shall tell you,’ there was a famine in the land. V12 “Then Isaac sowed in that land and reaped a hundredfold, and the Lord blessed him.” As you are led by the Holy Spirit and God speaks to you, and you respond to what he tells you.
Let’s look at “four things” you need to do to put the Scriptures to work in your life.
  • Believe God’s word is true. Not just some of it, but all of it. God’s living Word will speak to you. Hebrews 4:12, “Just believe.”
  • Again, you must obey his word. For example, Hebrews 9:25, “Not forsaking the assembly of ourselves together, as the manner of some, but exalting one another and so much the more as you see the Day (Rapture) approaching.” In other words, get in a habit of going to Church regularly. Don’t miss a service, you will always learn something new.
  • Learn from the examples of people God uses in the Scripture. The good, the bad, and the ugly. We are all flawed vessels but God is faithful and gracious to teach us what we need to know. King David fits all of the above, but God forgives, restores, and uses people who have a contrite heart. Psalm 51: 16-17.
  • Declare God’s promises as your own. The word says in 2 Corinthians 1:20, “For all the promises of God in Him are ‘yes’ and in Him, amen, to the glory of God through us.” Isaiah 53:5 “By his stripes we are healed.” Find the promises you need and stand on them. They are yours, if you meet the conditions of faith. Believe that you receive when you ask and pray: the more time you spend alone with your Savior Jesus, the more your heart “burns” for His word.
As King David writes in Psalm 119: 97, “Oh how I love your law, it is my meditation all the day.” “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” “Therefore, I love your Commandments more than gold, yes than fine gold.” “I rejoice at your Word as one who finds great treasure.” “Great peace have those who love your law and nothing causes them to stumble.”
Read the prayer: make the Scripture come to life in my life. Amen!
